You probably will want to know, first of all, whether I’m trained to be able to be of help to you in whatever it is you are wanting to change in your life, so I’ll begin by answering that question..
From the time I was a teenager I have been reading about psychology, trying to learn ”what makes people tick,” so it was natural to me to study psychology in college. After college I enrolled in a graduate program at Georgia State University, where I earned my Masters degree in Psychology. I continued in the graduate Psychology program at Georgia State and earned a Ph.D. degree in Developmental Psychology, learning about development from the time of conception, through infancy, childhood, teenage, young adulthood, and into maturity and old age.
After earning my Ph.D. degree, with a colleague I co-created the Georgia State University Parent/Infant Resource Center. In the process I realized that what I most liked to do was work with people as a therapist, so I began an internship with The Link Counseling Center in Sandy Springs, GA to become licensed as a Professional Counselor and National Certified Counselor.
During my internship I taught basic counseling skills to people who enrolled in that course at The Link. Some of the graduates of the course were invited to become paraprofessionals at The Link’s offices in Marietta, GA, staffing the reception desk and taking phone calls. I conducted group training and support sessions with them, continuing that work and also counseling individual clients at The Link until in 1992 I established a private practice which is now located near Lenox Mall.
Meanwhle, I continued to study different methods of counseling. Many of the methods that I found to be the most effective are in the category called "Energy Psychotherapy" or "Energy Therapy." This type of therapy was originated by a psychologist who had specialized in treating Anxiety and Panic Disorders. Unlike traditional treatments this method included stimulating the body's energy system by tapping selected points on the face and upper body while the client focused on whatever troubling feeling he/she was having. Remarkably, this resulted in very rapid and very effective positive changes. Over the years, is has been found that the energy theraies can be used with virtually any kind of distressing feelings. It doesn't matter whether the distress started recently or a long time ago, the energy therapies are usually very effective in restoring a sense of peace and calm about the problem.
I believe so strongly in the value of these therapies that in 1998 I organized a conference to teach others in the Southeast how to use the therapies. I also organized and taught some of the classes for three more conferences. In addition I have trained in using these therapies in my coaching practice and have qualified as a "Certified Energy Coach."
